UNIVERSAL HOME SERVICES: Our Origin Story

The UHS mission upon starting in 2020 was straight-forward: simplify the Home Renovation & Repair process for homeowners. We knew just how daunting it could be to find reliable, honest, & trustworthy contractors for the most important asset our customers will ever own. The truth of the matter is that the contracting market is full of a wide variety of people, from exceptional professionals to downright criminals.

Time and time again you hear the horror stories of poor quality work, jobs going unfinished, or contractors walking away with customers money without even beginning a project. If you are lucky to find a good contractor, it's still hard to get ahold of them.

We knew this was happening, and realized the opportunity to provide exceptional service and quality of work in a market that was overwhelmed with a lack of transparency and consistency in service. Starting in McMinnville, we set out on a mission to develop a strong customer base built on trust and quality with the customers we've served.

Over the last five years, we've expanded our offerings and service areas to the Oregon Coast, focusing on Lincoln City as our primary market as well as surrounding smaller communities like Neskowin, Pacific City, and Depoe Bay. Being based in McMinnville, we were uniquely situated within close proximity to these coastal markets considering the short drive over and our in-house teams living even closer in the Sheridan/Grand Ronde areas.

What we found was even more stark than what was occurring in the Valley: there were very few local contractors with a good reputation.

Over and over we heard things like:

"We can't find anybody to call us back!" or "There's no good local options here that we can trust."

It became clear very quickly that Lincoln City was underserved in terms of quality/reliability and overwhelmed in the work that was needed. After all, the Oregon Coast's growth has been steadily increasing over the past 10 years or more due to its exceptional natural attractions and relative affordability compared to many coastal towns in other states.

With the exception of a few highly-booked local contractors, it was clear that the bulk of the best work was coming from the Valley. Who better to call than contractors just over the hill in McMinnville who know the challenges that Lincoln City faces both from a technical & practical standpoint.
